Anna at 1 year!

Month 11 was very satisfying!  Most excitingly Anna learned to walk.  She also got real hair (the Mohawk is *almost* gone), ended with three teeth (two more than she started with I believe), started making noises that sound likes real words (though they aren't realy words, just noises) and, in her father's opinion, is a real person now.  She went to Myrtle Beach and spent time with her Hoverman family (Nana, Papa, Aunt Kiki, Uncle Goeff, Cousin Blake, Uncle Matt and Aunt Laurie were all there), spent time at Tahoe with her Smuesby family and celebrated her birthday at least 3 times.  She continues to be our very own Bambam and walking has only made it more pronounced.  She leads with her head and is constantly falling which makes her cry sometimes but she shakes it off quickly.  She continues to have very little self-preservation instinct which is funny until it's not.  She has NOT figured out how to go down stairs backwards so she heads straight down on her feet.  Ok when it's two stairs.  Not ok when it's more.  She started out the month happy Anna and ended it much more solemn and thoughtful.  (Since I am writing this a month late I know that Happy Anna came back and Solemn Anna is really Teething Anna which was a relief.  We missed Happy Anna!)  Anna still loves to hug and cuddle.  She is a very good sleeper and is starting to even sleep late (6:30 feels pretty late to me!  Sometimes she even makes it to 7!!!)  She is down to four bottles a day (though they are big bottles) and she is a good eater at all meals except breakfast.  She still refuses to eat anything that comes on a spoon or a fork preferring to feed herself.

A typical Anna day goes something like this:

She wakes up initially at about 6 and after a quick fussing/grunting session she gets a warmed up 6oz bottle of whole milk.  She usually goes back to sleep post bottle and snoozes in her crib until 6;30 or 7.  When she wakes up the second time, Sarah Jane, who has been awake for sometime and usually playing quietly (sometimes) in her parent's room, runs in to say good morning, allowing her sleepy parents a five minute-ish snooze.  After we get her up we begin the daily battle to keep Anna out of trouble.  She likes to crawl into the shower, fully clothed, so we have started letting her hang out in the shower while we shower which has had the side effect of making her big sis much more interested in getting clean!  After we get her dressed (a HUGE struggle since she does NOT appreciate being on her back on the changing table) we head downstairs for breakfast.  She's not much of a breakfast eater but can usually be persuaded to have some fruit.  Elizabeth shows up at 8.  Anna claps and beams.  Her sister is not so enthusiastic.  Mommy leaves for work, Anna is just starting to wave goodbye and occasionally looks a little miffed but so far has not had any separation anxiety.  Everyone plays in the back room until Anna gets a little fussy, around 9/9:30 and has her second bottle in bed, and usually falls asleep, though often not.  Owen shows up at 9:30.  After a brief morning nap it's off on an Elizabeth inspired adventure.  The zoo, the park, the little farm, Target, burritos, they go all over!  At noon they have lunch, usually in a park.  Elizabeth is the queen of the park and gets all the other nannies to help.  It's an amazing sight.  In the afternoon there is some form of a nap.  Usually around 2:30 and it always involves a bottle but does not always involve sleep.  At 5:30 it's dinner time.  If mommy has cooked it's noodles.  When Elizabeth is cooking it's chicken, rice, zucchinis from the garden and tomatoes.  At 6 mommy gets home.  Anna always gives me a hero's welcome which involves a big smile and lots of arm waving and banging on her plate.  I make dinner for SJ and feeds Anna her second dinner (some of whatever we are eating.  Usually noodles again.)  After dinner we head up stairs for a bath.  Anna LOVES her bath but she does not love getting clean.  She likes to stand up in the bath and then look at me expectantly, waiting for me to say "Sit down Anna" which she does promptly because she knows I will clap.  Anna will do anything for applause.  After bath we wrestle into her pjs, always a struggle, and go downstairs to get her bottle.  I often attempt to read Anna a book before bed but she is not at all interested.  She gets very frustrated and swats any book away.  She heads to bed, with her bottle, at about 7:15.  Any later and we have problems but if I catch her just right, she goes straight down no problem.

Anna's favorite foods are cheese, cheese and cheese.  Preferably yellow.  She likes to drink out of cups, she fills her mouth up with water, spits it out and goes back for more.  Her favorite toys are things that make noise and babies that have eyes that open and close.  She likes pushing the strollers and the alligator walker.  She likes hanging out in her tent.  She loves eating dirt and sand.  She is a very good hugger.  She roars when she wants more.  She does not like having barrettes in her hair.  She still seems big to me and is wearing size 18-24 months comfortably.  Her eyes are more green than blue these days though are still changing and in the bathtub look blue.  Her hair is not coming in curly but seems to be fluffy, sort of like her dad's I think.  She looks to me like her Dad and her Uncle Nat.  She loves to make noises and spends a lot of time wiggling her tongue and singing.  In my humble opinion, I think she has a lovely and clear voice.

Below is the daily log (last month!)

Tue, Jul 20, 2010

Anna has two dinners most nights - she eats first with Elizabeth and then a second time with Mommy and Sarah Jane. She loves to eat!

Wed, Jul 21, 2010

Anna is getting a new tooth. Just in time for vacation

Thu, Jul 22, 2010

Anna is no longer getting a tooth. These teeth are mysterious!

Fri, Jul 23, 2010

Anna is hanging out with her dad and her sister this morning while Mommy travels for work.

Sat, Jul 24, 2010

Anna is on her way to Myrtle Beach for Hoverman family vacation. She was very good in the plane, as long as she was strapped into her car seat. She is squirmy! She also made lots of friends as she is a major flirt.

Sun, Jul 25, 2010

Anna hit the beach and headed straight for the water. Marching right in with no fear. Very impressive.

Mon, Jul 26, 2010

Anna did very well adjusting to the time change and the new crib. She has been going right down at night no problem (in contrast to her big sis.)

Tue, Jul 27, 2010
Anna went out to dinner to celebrate Nana and Papa's wedding anniversary. She was very well behaved but ended up much dirtier than she started!

Wed, Jul 28, 2010

Anna likes to eat sand. She does not seem to learn that it doesn't task good. Actually, Anna likes to eat anything. She is particularly fond of milkshakes from Papa.

Thu, Jul 29, 2010

Anna is enjoying her time with her cousin.  Actually she doesn't really notice him as she is much more interested in the adults but I'm sure that will change soon.

Fri, Jul 30, 2010

Anna enjoyed a bath with Aunt Kiki, Cousin Blake AND Sarah Jane.  Everyone got very wet.  No one got very clean.

Sat, Jul 31, 2010

Anna is headed home from family vacation and is once again a lovely happy baby on the plane. So easy Anna!

Sun, Aug 01, 2010

Mon, Aug 02, 2010

Anna was thrilled thrilled thrilled this morning to see Elizabeth. I thought she would float out of her chair!

Tue, Aug 03, 2010

Anna impressed Aunt Whitney greatly today with her almost walking skills.

Wed, Aug 04, 2010

Anna is such a very good sleeper these days. We really appreciate it Anna! Thank you.

Thu, Aug 05, 2010

Anna was very good at mommy's work party and charmed all of my colleagues with her happy smile and her willingness to hug just about any one (though her hugs for mommy are really the best.)

Fri, Aug 06, 2010

Anna is a very good eater, consuming just about anything that is put in front of her.

Sat, Aug 07, 2010

Anna is walking! She took two steps on her own this morning and promptly crashed into the wall in our bedroom. Has not yet been repeated but we are on our way to toddlerhood.

Sun, Aug 08, 2010

Anna is walking more and more, I think we got up to four steps today. Her rate of improvement is truly impressive. AND her Hoverman grandparents were here to witness it!

Mon, Aug 09, 2010

Anna threw up all over her mother this evening. Big kid throw up. Stinky gooey chunks. And now my reader is as grossed out as I was. But not covered in throw-up. Be glad.

Tue, Aug 10, 2010

Anna's mom is solo without dad. We miss him. We are all tired.

Wed, Aug 11, 2010

Anna is starting real milk! Mainly because we are out of formula and her mother pretty much refuses to buy any more. Fed up with the stuff. Anna does not seem to mind. (Or notice.)

Thu, Aug 12, 2010

Anna celebrated her first birthday (one of many celebrations) with Aunt Kiki who is leaving for the East Coast. We will miss having Aunt Kiki in our lives!

Fri, Aug 13, 2010

Anna took her first steps that weren't heading towards someones open arms (walking initiated by herself.) She got up to 8 solo steps on her own.

Sat, Aug 14, 2010

Anna ate at Saul's with Nana and Papa this morning. She did not like French Toast or Pancakes. She DID like watermelon. Anna is not much of a breakfast eater.

Sun, Aug 15, 2010

Anna celebrated her first birthday party today at the Tilden Trains (in tandem with Sarah Jane.) She was an excellent sport but does not like chocolate cupcakes.  She had two friends at the party - Drew Chun and Hazel (Lucy's sister.)  She wore a pretty yellow dress and a creamy white sweater.
Blowing out her candle (or just plan grabbing it.)
The biggest "kids" at the party
The tent was a hit
Not a fan of the cupcake.  Odd since she eats everything else.

Mon, Aug 16, 2010

Anna is suddenly getting a bit grumpy. Where did Happy Anna go? She gets mad when she doesn't get something she wants (though she gets over it quickly) and she spends a lot of time in thoughtful contemplation (when she used to just smile and coo.)

Tue, Aug 17, 2010

Anna is learning to share! This morning she and Sarah Jane hung out in bed with mommy and Sarah Jane wanted Anna's passy. Sarah Jane cried and cried and suddenly a light-bulb went off in Anna's head and she took it out of her mouth and handed it to Sarah Jane. Then she roared, and looked expectantly until Sarah Jane handed it back to her. What a fun game!

Wed, Aug 18, 2010

Anna is starting to make sounds like words. She doesn't make the actual word sounds but she makes the correct intonation for things like "byebye" and "Sarah Jane." She can also very adamantly shake her head no, especially when being asked to eat something she'd rather not.

Thu, Aug 19, 2010

Anna is ONE! She had a wonderful birthday morning with lots a presents (a puzzle from GPapa, a book from GG, clothes, some books and her very own baby whose eyes open and close from mommy and daddy and a cool wooden box with holes for shapes from Sarah Jane (who picked it out herself with some guidance from Diapers.com)

Her very own baby!
What lucky sisters!

Anna at 11 months!

What a wonderful, fun, happy little Anna we have!  She is a joy to be with.  This month got to spend lots of quality time at Glenbrook with her Smuesby family where we discovered that Anna loves the water at the beach (and has no fear).  And (thank goodness) her mother managed to take more photos.  She is pretty cute in her photos.  I had a hard time choosing.

Sun, Jun 20, 2010

Anna spent most of the day with Gramma and Zeke. Zeke actually got Anna to go back to sleep after she woke up in her nap. That has to be a first!

Mon, Jun 21, 2010

Anna may be headed to one nap land sooner than expected.

Tue, Jun 22, 2010

Anna is cruising! She can jet around on her little feet as long as someone is holding her hands.

Wed, Jun 23, 2010

Anna's hair is actually starting to fluff out a bit in places. Just not everywhere.

Thu, Jun 24, 2010

Anna has a runny nose and is waking up earlier and earlier. I think teeth though don't see any peeking through.

Fri, Jun 25, 2010

Anna was quite sad today. She is not doing well with this tooth (which continues to refuse to make an actual appearance but which is clearly bothering her.)

Sat, Jun 26, 2010

Anna spent the day at Brady's birthday party in the city hanging out with "Brady's Blake" aka Baby Drew. She was a very good sport despite only a brief nap in the stroller. She does NOT like tart yogurt.
This is one happy happy baby

Sun, Jun 27, 2010

Anna loves, loves, loves to play outside crawling all over the grass and in and out of the tent. She can entertain herself for a very long time much to her mother's massive appreciation.

Mon, Jun 28, 2010

Anna is still waking up at 4, maybe in pain due to teeth? Hard to tell. Requires a bottle to back to sleep. Argh. How do I keep getting myself in this situation?

Tue, Jun 29, 2010

Anna has many tricks now, and nearly all involve her hands - she waves with her whole arm, can high-five, can clap, can hug (mommy's favorite) and sings along when we go up the wooden hill.

Wed, Jun 30, 2010

Anna is potentially dropping her morning nap but then surprises us. She is truly not a regular sleeper. Her schedule remains a mystery…

Thu, Jul 01, 2010

Anna arrived in Glenbrook late last night and promptly decided to give up sleeping. Much to everyone else's discomfort at 4:20 in the morning.

Fri, Jul 02, 2010

Anna is completely done with eating mushed up food. She won't put anything in her mouth that comes on a spoon, even when she is very hungry!

Sat, Jul 03, 2010

Anna is not scared of the water! She crawled right in to the creek and played along with her big sister despite the fact that it was absolutely freezing. She also likes to eat the sand and would have consumed several rocks had she had her way.

Sun, Jul 04, 2010

Anna enjoyed the annual Glenbrook 4th of July golf cart extravaganza, watching happily from the baby backpack on Daddy's back while he rode through the parade. It looked a bit precarious but they both seemed to enjoy the experience.
Watching the parade
Are these folks related?
Bike riding with Daddy, following the parade

Mon, Jul 05, 2010

Anna had her first ride in the kid carrier on the back of dad's bike on a family expedition to the grocery store. No surprises - she hated her helmet, she loved it when dad went fast.

Tue, Jul 06, 2010

Anna slept late this morning, all the way to 7:50 (when she had to be woken up.) This was actually her morning nap as she woke up at 5 and demanded a bottle until 5:45 when her mother finally got out of bed and fetched one for her…

Wed, Jul 07, 2010

Anna engages in a nightly wrestling match post-bath, pre-bottle. She is NOT easy to get in her pjs!

Thu, Jul 08, 2010

Anna's big sis has the ability to make Anna laugh hysterically. It is infectious!

Fri, Jul 09, 2010

Anna has now officially "slept late" this entire week! She is still waking up for her bottle but later and later and then went back to sleep. Dave and I have been enjoying the change immensely!

Sat, Jul 10, 2010

Anna climbed all the way up the stairs today, singing and grunting and generally celebrating her success the whole way up. She nearly did a victory dance when she got to the top!

Sun, Jul 11, 2010

Anna went hiking on Mount Tam today with Daddy, Mommy, SJ, Aunt Kiki, Uncle Geoff and Cousin Blake. She rode in the Ergo all the way up and sang most of the way. She ate pancakes at the top and then slept most of the way down. Very nice morning!

Mon, Jul 12, 2010

Anna's second tooth popped out today! Which explains her 3.5 hour temper tantrum yesterday night.

Tue, Jul 13, 2010

Anna is our bambam - her favorite activity is climbing into her bouncy chair, knees down and riding it like a horse holding on to the top and yelling. When she's not doing that she's sprinting for the stairs. When she's not doing that she standing up and trying to climb up whatever flat surface is in her way.

Thu, Jul 15, 2010

Anna is moving into new clothes. She is now wearing size 18-24 months. Not small.

Fri, Jul 16, 2010

Anna drove up to Tahoe tonight with her Mama and her Aunt Whitney. She was very cheerful and easy in the car and then went right to sleep when we got there at around midnight - good job Anna!

Sat, Jul 17, 2010

Anna is such a brave and fun little girl - she loves the beach and thinks playing in the water is lots and lots of fun. She also likes sitting in her little green chair with all the other folks sitting in their chairs.

Sun, Jul 18, 2010

Anna celebrated Gramma's 60th birthday with her GG and all her Smuesby Aunts and Uncle.
Happy Birthday Gramma!
Four generations (and a Hoverman Toungue!)
So Proud!
In her pretty Paris dress from Aunt Whitney!

Mon, Jul 19, 2010

Anna had to learn how to fall asleep last night without a bottle. It took her about 30 minutes. Poor Anna.

Anna Month 10!

I am behind on my project - writing this one over a month late.  So very few details.  I can't remember back more than 3 days.  May seems like years ago.  (Hence the reason for this whole project!)  Reading the items below, highlights apparently included learning to crawl, pulling herself up to standing, learning to walk (supported), high-fives and waving (she is a huge flirt and will wave at any strange man but almost never waves at anyone else.)  She also got hair.

I can't believe I can't actually recall any of that!  We attended two major events - Aunt Kiki's graduation and Jenny's wedding.  And I took NO pictures.  How is this possible?  It's like a black hole.

Thu, May 20, 2010

Anna had a good doctor's appointment this morning. She is now 20 lbs 15 oz and 28.25 in. Weight is 85% and height is 75% so more proportionate. I was right on her head; it did have a big growth spurt.

Fri, May 21, 2010

Anna is enjoying hanging out with Aunt Julia and Uncle Mike.

Sat, May 22, 2010

Anna spent the day celebrating Aunt Kiki's graduation from CAL. Congratulations Kiki!!! Anna enjoyed hanging out with her wonderful Aunts and Uncles and was very intrigued by her cousin Blake.

Sun, May 23, 2010

After a very nasty night, Anna's first tooth has made its appearance! (Bottom right front)

Mon, May 24, 2010

According to Elizabeth, Anna spent all day saying "mamamamama"! We approve of the hard work practicing!

Tue, May 25, 2010

A day of firsts - Anna started using her hands in crawling. The light bulb went off that she needs to lift her hands up to, not just her feet. I still haven't seen her take more than one crawling "steps" but she isn't pushing herself backwards either.

Wed, May 26, 2010

Anna stood today supported only by herself. She was perched on my lap and was able to push herself up and stand on her own.

Thu, May 27, 2010

Anna is in to hugs! She loves to give hugs and to get hugs and her mama loves it too.

Fri, May 28, 2010

Anna crawled today! (Actually yesterday but yesterday I had the hugs update so we're off a day.) She made it all the way across the back room rug making a beeline for the books which she likes to pull out of the book case a la her Uncle Tom. I think she didn't actually notice what she was doing because when we asked her to replicate the feat she looked at me and Elizabeth like we were nuts, as if to say, "I can't get over there on my own, why are you asking me, that's so mean!" Sort of like we took the training wheels off and she could ride the bike but when she noticed they were gone, she fell down. But full scale crawling is definitely around the corner.

Sat, May 29, 2010

Anna can pull herself up to standing in her crib which makes falling asleep a bit harder!

Sun, May 30, 2010

Anna spent the day at the Point Reyes beach with her Smuesby family (all of them!) She was very good natured despite a full diaper and almost no nap. Thank goodness for Anna's good naturedness!

Mon, May 31, 2010

Anna is seriously in to blueberries. And is getting much more successful at actually getting them in her hands and then in to her mouth. Although 40% of them are still ending up on the floor.

Tue, Jun 01, 2010

Anna pulled herself up to standing today and then clapped her hands!

Wed, Jun 02, 2010

Anna's hair is long enough now to be brushed over to the side and put in a barrette which is very sweet.

Thu, Jun 03, 2010

Anna is starting to take baby steps when her hands are held.  Also, according to the date on this video, she just learned how to crawl.

Fri, Jun 04, 2010

Anna's favorite thing to do is pull herself up to standing. Anna's least favorite thing to do is cooperate with a regular nap schedule.

Sat, Jun 05, 2010

Anna enjoyed Jenny's wedding. She was dressed in a pretty red dress that matched her sister and her mama (not exactly, just the theme) and was very good throughout the day, earning her mama lots of compliments for having the happiest baby on the block - my Buddha baby. She went to sleep very nicely in the stroller happily letting her parents and her sister enjoy the dance floor!

Sun, Jun 06, 2010

Anna spent lots of time in the car today, very cheerfully, heading home from Mendocino by way of mom's company picnic in San Mateo. She is exceedingly good natured and discovered that she enjoys water melon. She is at a fun stage where we can hand her just about any food and she carefully tests it, gets a funny look on her face like she doesn't like it and then pops it right back in just in case it has changed in the interim. Anna also waved for the first time today. At a total stranger in Andronicos. I looked down and there she was waving! He said she initiated it!

Mon, Jun 07, 2010

Anna "walked" across the room today pushing the leapfrog music toy in front of her. I'm not sure she noticed she was walking but she made it clear across the room.

Tue, Jun 08, 2010

Anna loves standing up. She is entirely uninterested in crawling unless it brings her to something she can use to stand up. She is NOT good at learning what might hurt.

Wed, Jun 09, 2010

Anna's hair is actually mostly all filled in. As in, she has hair covering most of her head now. Still highly concentrated in her Mohawk area.

Thu, Jun 10, 2010

Anna's new sleep thing is to wake up pretty early, (5-5:30), cry for her bottle, get her bottle with GREAT relief, lie back down tin the crib with said bottle and go right back to sleep until about 6:15. Not perfect but better than before.

Fri, Jun 11, 2010

Anna's sister and her mother are sick (one with a fever and one with a stomach ache.) So far, Anna has avoided both. Fingers crossed that continues.

Sat, Jun 12, 2010

Anna stood up without holding on to anything, and stayed there for a good long while! She was very proud of herself!!!

Sun, Jun 13, 2010

Anna is getting very good at "walking" from object to object. She is also getting good at taking real steps if her hands are held by someone else. She can even do it if only one hand is being held.

Mon, Jun 14, 2010

Anna now needs her hair brushed in the morning -it's actually turning into hair!

Tue, Jun 15, 2010

Anna LOVES to try and climb into the shower in the morning.

Wed, Jun 16, 2010

Anna can do a high-five.

Thu, Jun 17, 2010

Anna walked all the way across the kitchen and outside holding onto Mommy's hands.

Fri, Jun 18, 2010

Anna has tricked us - she was doing so well with her 5:45-6:15 wake up, she trained us to bring her the bottle just as quick as we could, but she has steadily crept the wake up earlier and earlier and this morning she started at 4. Not fair Anna! I'm going back to running the show. (So we listened to her cry for an hour. Fun times.)

Sat, Jun 19, 2010

Anna is spending the day with Melissa and Sarah Jane while mommy and daddy are off on an adventure to Santa Monica

First haircut!

Anna at 9 months!

Such a better month this month!  No disease, no jury duty and no teething in conjunction with Anna finally becoming a reliable night sleeper have left me very, very happy!  (She still is not a good napper but we will get there.  Or maybe not.)

Some big events this month include Anna's first word - "Dadada" which means both "I see Daddy!" and "I am very happy!" (meanings which often coincide), learning to move forward (though still not crawling - she can scoot in a sitting position), and learning to clap (which she is very proud of!)  She has also figured out how to smile for the camera which is very cute.  Anna also became a cousin! and has had lots of fun examining baby Blake.  Anna loves, loves, loves her sister and watches her intently whenever they are in the same room.  I heard her sigh in such a contented adult little way the other night when Sarah Jane walked over to say good night, it was very cute.  She is often told she looks just like the Gerber baby, and I have to agree.  She is very happy (except when she is not) but generally, she has a huge smile plastered on her little face.  Happiness seems to be her natural resting position.  She is just starting to get wary of people other than Mommy, Daddy, Elizabeth and Sarah Jane.  Not scared of them yet but aware they are different.  She is a very good eater, consuming a whooping 32 oz of formula a day plus three meals of veggie/fruit/oatmeal puree.  She is moving out of her 6-12 month clothing and into her 12-18 month set and I think her feet finally caught up to the rest of her making me think she will be a tall Hoverman after all.  Still no hair but I think her head is actually fully covered by fuzz now so there is progress on that front as well.

A typical Anna day begins promptly at 5:45 when she comes into Mommy and Daddy's bed to snuggle and sort of eat.  Sarah Jane often joins us.  Mommy entertains while Daddy manages to ignore the chaos and continue to sleep except for interludes when he communes with his Blackberry which amazes all of us.  Anna then gets a bottle while everyone else showers and gets ready for work/school and she plays with the basket of toys on the floor, often backing herself into a corner or under the bed in her efforts to move forward.  At 7:45 we all go downstairs and Anna gets a breakfast of bananas, blueberries and oatmeal which Elizabeth, who arrives at 8 feeds her.  At 8:20 they say good bye to Mommy and jump into the car to take Sarah Jane to school.  Between 9 and 1:30 when Sarah Jane comes home, she eats, snoozes in the stroller and plays at the park with Owen and Elizabeth.  When Sarah Jane gets home, they hang out at the house until nap time around 2:30.  Anna has no regular schedule and usually either has a good one in the morning in the stroller or a good one in the afternoon in her crib but almost never both.  She gets dinner from Elizabeth at 5:30 and Mommy comes home at 5:45 to make dinner for Sarah Jane.  Anna sits with us at the table while we eat and then we head "Up the Wooden Hill" at 6:30 for bath time with Sarah Jane.  Anna still loves the bath and thinks the toys that squirt water are particularly funny.  Sarah Jane does not like to share toys with Anna but can usually be convinced (after several squawks) to "trade" a new toy for the toy she wants.  So far, Anna doesn't mind what she has, as long as she has something.  After bath Anna gets into her PJs, has part of her bottle (but is usually too distracted by Sarah Jane to finish it), reads a book (either Good Night Moon or Jamberry) and then, after two songs (Mr. Moon and Wise Man), is put to bed where she finishes her bottle and 9 times out of 10, goes to sleep happily.  She likes to sleep with her lamb lovie and her purple blanket and usually flips over on to her stomach.  She is very particular about being covered with the blanket and likes to hold on to it with her left hand.

Daily updates below...

Mon, Apr 19, 2010

Anna has suddenly gotten very, very talkative. She has a LOT to say. All the time. It is very endearing and she is very proud of all her noise.

Tue, Apr 20, 2010

Anna can make it up in to the correct crawling position pretty consistently now but she can't go anywhere still. She's rolling around much more and has become a more active sleeper. I used to be able to tuck her in under her big soft purple blankie and find her in the exact same place the next morning but now she is starting to roll all over and today she went to sleep on her side which is a first.

Wed, Apr 21, 2010

Anna went to Studio Grow with Elizabeth and Sarah Jane today (Owen is at home with his grandmother.) Sarah Jane had a ball but Anna was NOT happy. Elizabeth said she cried and cried. We are attempting to get her to drink more milk as opposed to eating more food. My guess is she is eating too much and then getting hungry at night.

Thu, Apr 22, 2010

Anna is nursing less and less. The weaning may be coming faster than expected. She has a hard time concentrating and it's tough to know if she is getting enough to eat when I feed her. Have started supplementing her evening nursing with a bottle which she definitely seems to want.

Fri, Apr 23, 2010

Anna seems to be rolling over more in her crib and is maybe more comfortable sleeping belly down.

Sat, Apr 24, 2010

Anna spent her first night away from her mother who was celebrating Jenny's bachelorette (and Blake's arrival.) Anna was very good and slept for her Daddy. Funny how it works that way.

Sun, Apr 25, 2010

Anna visited her new cousin Blake in the hospital today. Unfortunately she still has a runny nose so there were no photos of Anna and Blake, just Sarah Jane (who was very quiet, baby crying seems to be a bit disturbing still.)

Mon, Apr 26, 2010

Anna is always very happy to see Elizabeth when she shows up. There is lots of big smiles, hand banging, cooing and head nuzzling. Her sister takes a bit longer to warm up.

Tue, Apr 27, 2010

Anna is hugely excited to go to bed now that she can turn over and snuggle her head down on top of her little lamb lovey. After I put her down she pops her head up every now and then to give me a huge smile (tongue out of course) and then pops back down. No crying, straight to sleep and has a two night track record of all the way through the night, definitely a record for us...

Wed, Apr 28, 2010

…and the end of the record. Up from 4:30 to 5:30, waking everyone up, I caved and gave her a bottle of water which put her back to sleep until (amazingly) 7:45. Her sister followed suite and we all slept in which didn't work out well for my work schedule.

Thu, Apr 29, 2010

Anna is still working very hard on crawling, and not getting anywhere but backwards. She can push herself up to the correct position fairly reliably and then rocks back and forth (and makes frustrated grunting sounds) but she can't seem to put it together that she needs to lift one of her hands up to move. We are very close though!

Fri, Apr 30, 2010

Anna and Sarah Jane visited with Cousin Blake today. All three were very well behaved (though Sarah Jane is still working the attention she gets from being scared of Bentley. Quite exhausting.)

Sat, May 01, 2010

Anna said "Dada" today in clear reference to Dada and I'm not sure which of them was more pleased!

Sun, May 02, 2010

Anna hosted brunch this morning with Lucy and Loie James though she slept through most of it with a stunning 2 and a half hour morning nap (followed of course by zero afternoon nap and a very grumpy evening baby.)

Mon, May 03, 2010

Still working on crawling, not getting very far (except behind where she started) and doing a lot of roaring as a result. She CAN stand up holding on to something for a pretty long time but she isn't showing any interest in pulling herself up.

Tue, May 04, 2010

Anna still has no teeth. Where are those teeth? Fingers crossed we get them all at the same time.

Wed, May 05, 2010

Anna is doing great at night! She nearly always goes down around 7:15 and sleeps until sometime between 5:30 and 6:15 which is very nice. Now we just have to get to 6 consistently and I will be happy!

Thu, May 06, 2010

Anna has learned to clap! She is so proud of herself. She spent all day happy as a result.

Fri, May 07, 2010

Anna seems to be weaning herself. Her attention span for nursing is about 1.4 seconds. It takes a lot of 1.4 seconds put together to get her filled up. She can focus on a bottle for a lot longer.

Sat, May 08, 2010

Today was Jenny's shower and Anna got to spend the lunch hour with Daddy, Sarah Jane and Zeke at the little train.

Sun, May 09, 2010

Anna celebrated Mother's Day at the Discovery Museum with the Chuns, followed by dinner at Gramma and Zeke's. She wore her first barrette which made her look very pretty (or, according to Zeke, like she had a screw top on her head…)

Mon, May 10, 2010

Anna gets VERY excited when she is read to. She pounds her feet and does a little head banging. She's pretty much moved on from the frantic opening and closing of hands (except when very tired.)

Tue, May 11, 2010

Anna loves to stand up holding on to things. She thinks it's hilarious. She hasn't tried to pull herself up yet and she has a hard time getting from sitting to crawling position without crashing. From crawling to sitting has not yet happened.

Wed, May 12, 2010

I *think* Anna has turned the corner on sleep. Easy to go down at 7:15 and seems to be sleeping straight through to 6:15ish. She even napped successfully today. Such progress!

Thu, May 13, 2010

Still working very hard on crawling. She seems to be able to move forward while sitting, just not while in the crawling position.

Fri, May 14, 2010

Anna seems to be going through a growth spurt. She is no longer fitting into her PJs and I think we are due for a clothing clean-out.

Sat, May 15, 2010

Anna went for a hike this afternoon in Tilden with Aunt Kiki, Uncle Geoff, Cousin Blake and Benty (and Daddy and Sarah Jane.) She rode in the Ergo with mommy and was a very good sport, even at the end when she got pretty hungry.

Sun, May 16, 2010

Anna spent the morning at Lily's third birthday party (SJ's friend from school.) She was highly cooperative (as usual) and snoozed in her stroller while the party zoomed around her.

Mon, May 17, 2010

Poor Anna (and poor mommy) had a very rough night last night. Something was bothering our little one and she cried and cried and cried from 10 until 1:30 and then back at it at 4:30. Maybe teeth finally?

Tue, May 18, 2010

Lovely full night of sleep again! Good job Anna.  We are very glad as Aunt Julia and Uncle Mike are visiting and sleeping right down the hall and we didn't want to scare them away for ever! And from Gramma after the Sarah Jane Pickup: I flung myself down on the carpet next to Anna and she reached right over for my bracelet . It wasn’t obvious (half way under a sleeve) but she knew it was there.

Wed, May 19, 2010

Anna has demonstrated the ability to go from crawling position to sitting, but it hasn't happened consistently yet.
