Anna's 8th month was split in two - March bad (sick, jury duty and too much work) and April good (almost crawling, lots of talking, singing and giggling.) The 8th month is also marked by what it was NOT - no teeth, no hair, no sleep. Anna is so good and so happy during waking hours impressing everyone with her two smiles -- lips firmly closed, lips in a flat line with the tips of her smile tucked into her cheeks OR mouth wide open and toungue sticking all the way out, nothing in between. But she is not a skilled sleeper. She's good at falling asleep in the evening after her bed time routine and we almost never have more than five minutes of crying but I don't think she slept past 5 more than twice this month. And many nights she didn't even make it till 5. I have purchased a book (The Sleep Easy Solution) and am making my way through it on BART. My theory is that we are feeding her too much food during the day (she's up to 2 jars at every meal) and as a result she's not drinking enough milk so she's waking up hungry or thirsty or both. Elizabeth and I agreed to cut it down to one jar and up the milk and see what happens. On that note, Anna is nursing only twice a day now. I made it through most of the month pumping once a day but now that I'm working in Berkeley more often, hauling around the pump was too much of a hassle.

Anna said goodbye to Nana this morning. We are going to miss her! Also, Anna has firmly established that she is not interested in the homemade baby food her mother has so thoughtfully been preparing for her every Sunday evening. We have made peas, cauliflower, sweet potato, squash, pears and bananas. Anna won't have any of it. But she is a fan of the stuff that comes frozen and/or in a tube. We can take a hint. No more homemade baby food for you Anna!

Anna celebrated Nana's first night not here by keeping her mother up from 9:30 to 11:15 and then from 3-5. Fun times! We are all still sick. Even Sarah Jane is not 100%. It has been nearly two weeks. We are ready to be done with this.

Anna was simultaneously very happy when mommy came home from work today and totally distressed. She wanted attention right away and when I went to wash my hands she was very annoyed. That is a first. Previously she was pleased as people drifted in an out of her line of vision but didn't seem worked up about it either way. Today she gave me the clear message that she wanted my attention, thank you very much!

Anna did very little sleeping today and a lot of crying (according to Elizabeth.) Grandma is spending the night to help mom get a bit more sleep.

Apparently took a break from Status Updates these three days. Distressed by jury duty and still sick. Ready for March to be over.

Daddy is gone golfing in Texas and mommy let Anna "cry it out" now that no one is sick. Wasn't a fun night.
Sun, Mar 28, 2010
Anna spent the day in the city with the Chuns at our old favorite park. It was a beautiful day and everyone had fun except probably Anna who did not appreciate trying out the Chun’s baby carrier.

Anna did a bit more crying last night - 2:30 until 4:30. Pretty brutal. Anna, when are you going to figure out how to sleep through the night?
Tue, Mar 30, 2010
Anna ate and ate and ate today. I think she's going through a growing spurt? AND she slept and slept and slept last night, making it all the way till 5:22 before requiring sustenance. Very refreshing!
Wed, Mar 31, 2010
Anna loves her bath but can sometimes be very solemn when she is first put in. I wish I knew what she was thinking about. After a bit she snaps out of it and has lots of fun.

Anna got to open up her new doll from Christmas this morning (has been sitting in a box) and she was absolutely thrilled. I think she actually understood that it was hers.
Fri, Apr 02, 2010
Anna slept all the way until 6am this morning with only one brief call for her passy (I think. I'm pretty sure I got out of bed and went and shushed her but maybe it was a dream?) I'm hopeful we have learned how to sleep! The trick seems to be keeping her warm at night with the warm pjs, the sleep sack and two blankets. We were doing only one before. She must be related to her mother.

Anna is enjoying her visit with Nana and Papa.
Sun, Apr 04, 2010
Anna observed the Easter egg hunt wrapped up in a blanket. Her sister very carefully, very slowly and very fairly filled her Easter blanket. She then made it through church successfully. She particularly liked to sing along with the music but other than that was very well behaved.

From Zeke's report from dropping off Sarah Jane: Anna was busy with her bottle, and casting very suspicious stares at me. As an aside, Anna is NOT sleeping. 3 nights of keeping us up. We were so close!
Tue, Apr 06, 2010
Anna is still not getting hair or teeth. As a result, I think we think she's younger than she actually is.
Wed, Apr 07, 2010
Anna is not impressing her Hoverman grandparents with her sleeping abilities. Her Hoverman grandparents ARE impressing her parents with their incredible patience and willingness to play with Anna downstairs at ridiculous hours while the rest of us snooze. Thank goodness for grandparents!

Elizabeth reports that all the other nannies at the park discuss how lucky she is to have Anna - how easy and how happy she is! We agree. (Except in the sleeping at night category.)

Sat, Apr 10, 2010
Anna seems to be getting a cold. And she seems to be waking up and screaming more and more frequently. Her mother is tired.
Sun, Apr 11, 2010
Anna is visiting with her Hoverman Uncles and Aunts who drove down from Tahoe to see her. She impressed everyone with her happy, happy smile which was constantly on her face until she suddenly started to projectile vomit and subsequently screamed and screamed and screamed. Poor baby. She seemed to recover after a quick 45 minute nap (oh Anna, why do you sleep so little!?), hopefully she is getting better.
Mon, Apr 12, 2010
Anna is getting much less interested in nursing. She is very easily distracted and as a result, each feeding takes a very long time. She is much more efficient with the bottle. Hmmmm.
Tue, Apr 13, 2010
Anna is making good progress on crawling. She isn't doing push-ups yet but she's getting pretty good at pushing herself backwards and rotating. Can't control where she gets to yet but she gets places she didn't start…
Wed, Apr 14, 2010
Anna got Ferberized last night. We let her cry for over an hour and she was mad about it. Not so fun for anyone (Sarah Jane had to sleep on our floor) but will be worth it if it works.
Thu, Apr 15, 2010
Anna slept through the night! Whoohoo. Go Anna. Cry it out does seems to work…
Fri, Apr 16, 2010
…and we're back to waking up at 4am again. I'm buying a book. It's time to bring in the experts.
Sat, Apr 17, 2010
Anna is working very hard on crawling and can now get up on all fours and rock back and forth but it makes her very very mad when she doesn't go anywhere.
Sun, Apr 18, 2010
Anna had brunch this morning with TJ Chang and his parents. She was very smiley and well behaved. Anna is nearly always smiley and well behaved, except at 4am when she is NOT.
