A day of firsts

Sarah Jane had her first day of school today. She has now officially moved from the Red Room to the Blue Room and is therefore now officially a big kid. She did great at the drop off. Some of the other kids got a bit teary saying goodbye to their parents. Sarah Jane observed said tears, got a bit quiet and then announced she wanted to push me out, which she did with gusto and that was it. I am very proud of my girls. (Anna continues to rock the drop off at teacher Bari's.)

Anna spent her first night in her big girl bed. She had a tough time falling asleep but once she fell asleep she stayed in bed like a champ and made it all the way through till morning. A feat not shared by her big sis.

Saying night night.  The first of many times.

The boys spent their first night apart in their own cribs. They also did the equivalent of great although I would have been more impressed if they hadn't woken up at 3 (and thankfully gone back to sleep) and then been fed at 5. They did however sleep until 8:30 after the 5am feed which I did find very impressive. Despite said wake ups the boys are doing very well on the sleep front. We have successfully unswaddled them and they are consistently waiting till 5 to be fed. We have come a long way. Next up: pacifier habit kicking. Not looking forward to that.

Roby rolled over for the first time today. Witnessed by Elizabeth. Roby did not hold off on the milestone achievement until I was present. I'm trying not to be miffed. Roby has also started making a very distinct, high pitched, totally horrible banshee yelling noise. We have explained that just because he can, doesn't mean he should. The message has not been absorbed. Eli is amused by the noise but so far is holding off on joining in.

I finally mailed the birth announcements. Not a first, actually a "last". We also found our first (maybe of many?) au pair today. Her name is Juliana and she is from Brazil. She is arriving Oct 21 and will be sleeping in our front room, formerly known as Nana and Papa's room. We need all the help we can get and she will be here in time to figure out our routine before I go back to work in November.

Big day.

So many wonderful pictures. I couldn't decide which was my favorite: Sarah Jane holding the sign? Both girls helping their dad with the bed--or at least watching intently? Anna tucked in?

And such a good story. Thank you for writing it. m

  4. And for a comment, these two girls are doing very well with this major transition - as always, part good luck and part good parenting.
